Is it time for a big home clean? Whether you like cleaning or not, every now and then you have to have a really big home clean to keep everything in the best possible condition. Of course you should be doing your regular cleaning, ensuring that things are clean and tidy, but there is more to it than this. A big clean means that you’re getting into those hard to reach places, and doing some of these areas that you probably avoid doing on a regular basis.

All The Normal Areas

First, you’re going to need to go through all of the normal areas. You need to keep everything nice and clean, otherwise it’s pointless getting into these harder to reach places! Mop the floors, wipe the counters, vacuum the floors, polish any wood that you have and so much more. Basically, if it’s something that you do on a regular basis, you need to do this before you do the rest of it.

Behind The Appliances

You need to get behind appliances if you are able to. If you have integrated appliances then this is something that doesn’t apply to you as you are unable to get behind them. But, if you can, then you should. Some people have freestanding fridges, ovens, and freezers which means that they can be moved. If they can be moved, then you need to move them and get behind them so that you can give the space a good clean. You may be surprised at just how dirty it can get down there considering that it’s mostly hidden from view all of the time, but it can get pretty bad.

While this is a lot of work, it’s got to be done every couple of months or so. Most people don’t bother, but once you see why we’re saying you should, hopefully you will. Take a picture to remind you of what you found the first time, and look at it when you’re considering just leaving it next time.

Dryer Vents

Another area that you probably forget to do often are the dryer vents. They can be a pain in the behind to get to and clean properly which is why so many people don’t bother. Instead, they just leave it and hope for the best but this can be dangerous. All of the build up can eventually catch fire if you are not careful which is the very last thing that you want. So, you need to get in there with a damp cloth and get cleaning. There are different ways to do this, and different people swear by different methods. You can always try out a few options and see what you like best.

Gutters

The final thing that we want to talk about are the gutters. The gutters can be gross, we know, but you still need to clean them out. It shouldn’t even take that long unless you have left it for months on end and they are clogged to within an inch of their life, and if this is true then you’re close to water damage in your home. Get your gloves on and start scooping whatever is in there, out of there so that the water can drain freely from now on.

Do this every time there is heavy winds or strong rains just to be sure they are clear. As well as this, do it once every month or so just to be on the safe side.
